Brexit webquest
The UK is set to leave the EU on January 31. In this "Webquest we will attempt to come to some sort of understanding of what Brexit is and what led to the 2016 referendum.

Your objective is to answer this question:

Why did the Brexiteers win the 2016 Brexit referendum?
STEP 1: Understanding British Imperial History and the historical background that explains the relationship between the UK and Europe
Watch the two movies and set up a timeline in which you focus on the rise and fall of the of the British Empire

Read button "1: A history lesson" and take notes on each of the 5 key chapters - try to explain how each of the chapters helped define the relationship between the UK and Europe.
​
Now it's time to find out whether Britain's imperial history contributed to the Brexit referendum results.

Listen to the song "A Song of Patriotic Prejudice". What does it tell you about the English Identity and sentiments when it comes to other nations?

STEP 2: A divided country - a discussion of ways that age, ethnicity, immigration, racism and inequality in the UK had an impact on the decision to leave the EU.
Read button "2: Statistics" to find out who voted what, and watch the first 2 Youtube clips to see in what ways Brexit has further divided the UK - take notes and make sure you mention immigration and the north/south divide. Why are people angry?

STEP 3: A national mess - Will Brexit be the end of the UK as we know it?
Go back to STEP 1 and check what Scotland and Northern Ireland voted at the Brexit referendum.​

Watch the 2 Youtube clips to find out what all the hassle is about and just why the two regions voted as they did.
